SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition - System Conversion Paths

The following figure display at a glance how a customer can move to SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition within the "System Conversion" Transition Scenario.

Transition Path1.jpg

Note: The figure contains aswell SAP S/4HANA releases which are planned to be available in future. This can not be considered as binding information, it displays more the logic of the transition paths.

System Conversion paths basically:

  1. From SAP Business Suite  (ERP6.0, EHP xx, AnyDB or SAP HANA DB)  to SAP S/4HANA Finance oP
  2. From SAP Business Suite  (ERP6.0, EHP xx, AnyDB or SAP HANA DB)  to SAP S/4HANA oP
  3. From SAP S/4HANA Finance  to SAP S/4HANA oP

Remarks:

  • The transition to SAP S/4HANA does not require the source system to be already on SAP HANA DB
  • SAP S/4HANA Finance oP is the first offering under the SAP S/4HANA product family
  • The decision to go for SAP S/4HANA Finance oP should be based on the business benefits, but is not a mandatory prerequisite for any system conversion
  • For older SAP Business Suite releases or systems on Non-Unicode an additional step to SAP ERP 6.0 EHPxx is required.
  • System has to be an AS ABAP-only system. Dual-stack systems (AS ABAP and AS Java combined in one system) are not supported for the conversion. If your system is as dual-stack system, you have to split it before doing the conversion.

Moving from SAP enhancement package 8 for SAP ERP 6.0

  • The move from SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 to SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition 1511 is planned to be supported with SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition 1511 Support Release 1 (SR1), which is planned to be avaiulable in July 2016.
  • See aswell the information in SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition 1511 release information note 2189824: "... Please note that the conversion to SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition 1511 Feature Package Stack 02 is only possible with the conversion export delivered with Support Release 1 (SR1). The availability of SR1 is planned for 07/2016 (non-binding information). Until then, you can convert to SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition 1511 Feature Package Stack 02 in two steps: 1) Conversion to SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition 1511 Feature Package Stack 01 (using the SR0 conversion export), 2) Update from Feature Package Stack 01 to Feature package Stack 02 via Support Package Manager (transaction SPAM) or Software Update Manager (SUM)..."

SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition - System Conversion versus Upgrade

Due to the fact that SAP S/4HANA is not the successor of SAP Business Suite, we use the term "System Conversion" for converting an existing SAP Business Suite System into a SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition System.

With the upcoming next release of SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition (planned for Q4 2016) we will (again) have the term "upgrade". The move from SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition 1511 to the planned Q4 release of SAP S/4HANA, on-premsie edition then again will be called an "Upgrade".  Here the term fits again because this lifecycle event is then again applying the successing version of SAp S/4HANA, on-premsie edition 1511.

Kind Regards,

Frank
