SAP Pod witnessed heavy traffic at I Love APIs 2015 conference in San Jose on 13th and 14th Oct. People were excited to see multiple demos developed by our SAP Gateway and API Management team.
After a hectic day or long commute, if people want to sit, relax and have coffee, we created a couch, chair, and coffee table for them out of thin air by using 'Visual Showroom' demo app powered by SAP API Management. This app allows customers to see whether their furniture fits in the designated space, they can rotate, move and check the orientation and if they like it, they can check pricing, availability, shipping date etc. and add it to the cart and place an order to SAP backend from the app itself. Isn't that cool? Cutting edge Smartwatch demo for asset repairs, which is also powered by SAP API Management, also attracted lot of visitors. People were very excited to see the use of wearable device for asset repairs in a plant. It showcased the use of Smartwatch and digital enablement for rapid incident report and response to asset breakdown. I and my colleague Elijah showed 2 personas- myself as a pump operator and Elijah as a technician. Pump operator in a plant can report machine defects easily on Smartwatch to generate repair work notifications. Within short time period, technician receives the work order on his Smartwatch. Using Bluetooth enabled beacon, he can locate the exact equipment in the plant that is giving problem and records all work related data which gets saved in SAP back end. He reports the work order completion and triggers posting on twitter and JAM to update other workers in the plant about repair status. You can check out the video here.

1. Opening Day Keynote session by Chet Kapoor, CEO, Apigee
Chet Kapoor kicked off his keynote address with this question-We know how to be digital as consumers, but do we know how to be digital as businesses? He talked about how digital revolution will disrupt every industry. He explained 3 Cs of digital: Culture, Community and Code and how 'System of Engagement' layer plays an important role in Two-Speed Enterprise.
2. Headlining Keynote: High Performance Climb Innovating While Moving Fast by John Foley, former US Navy Blue Angels lead solo pilot John Foley
In his keynote presentation, he shared his inspiring personal path to High Performance and showed the audience how they too can achieve higher levels of performance in their own personal and professional lives. We got to learn how his simple and systematic approach to developing clarity, focus, commitment, and trust are the keys to continuous improvement and exceptional growth.
3. YOUR IOT MBA: BUSINESS STRATEGY FOR THE CONNECTED WORLD
It was a very good panel discussion by Timo Stelzer, VP Products & Innovation Development - Global Technical Lead Connected Vehicles, SAP, Patrice Suplowski, VP Digital Innovation at Orange, Udayan Joshi, Digital Enterprise Solutions & Internet of Things ( IoT ) expert, Tech Mahindra. They explained about
- How IoT can create the business value in real world
- How we can take advantage of abundant of data provided by these connected devices and accordingly take proactive steps and save some costs
- What are Top IoT areas to focus on- Smart City, Smart Home etc
So, it was a great experience at I Love APIs, 2015 conference with so many fully engaged attendees and very good informative sessions. SAP API Management truly plays a critical role in this digital transformation.
