I wanted to share some info on the SAP HCP Technical Academy which was hosted in Sydney on 11-Feb-2016. This is the first event of this kind in the region and there are more to come this year. It was attended by over a dozen people representing various customers around NSW and QLD state. The SAP HANA Cloud Platform experts were my colleague Thomas Andreas Muller (who travelled all the way from Singapore), Thorsten Freitag, Kynan Jones and Me.
During the event we started with an introduction to the SAP HANA Cloud Platform and elaborated on the different services which are available within HCP. We also discussed on the different use cases which are available just to help the participants relate to some of the issues they would have within their environment. We got all the systems setup with the HANA Cloud Connector (except for one who was using a 32 bit laptop - bad luck) and started to build and deploy applications on the cloud which used both on-premise OData service and also OData services exposed on the Internet.
After lunch we shifted to something more interesting (just to make sure no one dozes off). We talked about the importance of UX Design and its impact on the way users perceive and use applications. All the participants were excited to use the new BUILD and SPLASH tools available in the HCP to create prototypes and eventually publish them to WebIDE. We then moved on to create applications leveraging HANA. The participants got to learn how they could create their own HANA schema and build HANA artifacts like tables, procedures, XSJS scripts, XSOData and finally build a HTML5 application which exposes the data in the underling tables. Finally, we also saw how to configure the HCI OData Provisioning service (which used to be called Gateway-as-a-Service) and expose OData services which are built in the backend on-premise ABAP System
